Workshop “Connections for Women”

Filed under: Conferences, Uncategorized — Dusanka Perisic @ 11:38 am

Dear colleagues: In the very beginning of the MSRI program on Tropical Geometry, we are organizing a workshop entitled “Connections for Women”:

http://www.msri.org/calendar/workshops/WorkshopInfo/480/show_workshop

This 2-days workshop will be held as a week-end event on August 22-23 and will be immediately followed by the Introductory Workshop, August 24-28. Its aim on the one hand is to introduce advanced graduate students and postdocs to Tropical Geometry. On the other hand, it is supposed to provide a platform for interaction that is particularly tailored to women in the early stages of their careers in mathematics. There will be two short-courses of 2x 1h-lectures by Hannah Markwig and Federico Ardila, a number of research talks by prominent women in the field and a panel discussion on career issues of female mathematicians. As an important activity of the workshop, we plan for a session of (very) short contributions by participants, consisting of focused two to three slides each. We strongly encourage participants of all levels to send an abstract to us by email along with completing their registration. We would be very happy to see you at MSRI for this workshop! Also, please help us circulate this information and forward it in particular to female graduate students and postdocs. There is limited funding available for travel and lodging expenses and female researchers will be given priority for support. The application deadline for funding is Monday, June 15, 2009. Registration will be open until the workshop starts. We are looking forward to an inspiring week-end in the beginning of the tropical semester at MSRI!

With best regards,

Alicia Dickenstein

We are seeking to appoint someone with expertise in Analysis, which is to be interpreted broadly, so including Applied Analysis, Complex Analysis, Numerical Analysis and Stochastic Analysis.

At present there is one lectureship advertised, however we expect that a second lectureship will also be approved shortly, also with expertise in Analysis. I would be grateful if you could bring this to the attention of anyone who might be interested.
